Within 14 miles of our Carolina Beach hotel, families can take part in Wilmington events, Kure Beach festivals and Fort Fisher gatherings. In the spring and summer, you’ll discover live music on the beach, and in the fall and winter, families will love the Carolina Beach Boardwalk holiday celebrations. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! >Christmas by the Sea at Carolina Beach Boardwalk – November 26, 2022
Join the festive fun at the annual Christmas by the Sea event hosted on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. Celebrations begin the Friday after Thanksgiving with the Lighting of the Lake. Meet Santa Claus & Mrs. Claus, enjoy storytelling by the fire, grab a cup of hot chocolate and take the kids to make their own Christmas ornaments. There is also plenty of shopping up and down the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.
>Island of Lights Christmas Parade – December 3, 2021
There’s no limit to the creativity you’ll see at the Annual Christmas Parade in Carolina Beach. Floats include decked-out military vehicles, pontoon boats covered in Christmas lights, golf carts transformed into Santa’s sleigh, trailers decorated in Charlie Brown Christmas and so much more! You’ll also see marching bands, boy scout troops and Santa riding a horse. The parade begins at 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta Ave and heads down Lake Park Blvd until it reaches Federal Point Plaza.
>Carolina Beach Holiday Market – December 4, 2022
Between parade celebrations, spend the morning checking a few holiday gifts off of your list. The Carolina Beach Holiday Market will take place at the Carolina Beach Lake from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Expect to find more than 50 local vendors with handmade arts and crafts like shark’s teeth necklaces, soaps and yard art.
>Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla – December 4, 2021
The seasonal festivities take to the seas with the Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla. Boats are decked out in their best holiday spirit and covered in thousands of twinkling lights in this aquatic parade. Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. at Snow’s Cut. Participating boats will float down the Intracoastal Waterway to the Carolina Beach Boat Basin and back.
>Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration – December 31, 2021
Ring the New Year in style with the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration. Attendance is FREE for all to enjoy with a live DJ, fireworks, refreshments and more! Cape Fear Festival of Trees – November 26, 2021 – January 3, 2022
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher joins the jovial fun with the Cape Fear Festival of Trees. Hundreds of glittering trees have transformed the aquarium into the ultimate winter wonderland for kids and adults to enjoy. Each tree is decorated by a local business, organization or artist. As one of the area’s longest-running holiday events, you don’t want to miss out on this community favorite. Admission to the event is included in your aquarium ticket that must be purchased online.
Kure Beach Holiday Whoobie Whatty – December 17, 2021
A Grinch-themed celebration will continue the holiday festivities in Kure Beach, NC. The event begins with the crowning of the Kure Beach Cheermeister, the owner of the most festively decorated home in Kure Beach. During the event, families can enjoy a screening of the 2000 film “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” have their face painted, create Grinch-y crafts, decorate cookies in bright reds and greens and have their photo taken with the Grinch. Attendees are encouraged to dress in the most creative Whoville attire for this FREE community event at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park & Pavilion. Donations will be collected for the Help Center of Federal Point.
Fourth Wednesday Bird Walk – December 29, 2021, January 26 and February 23, 2022
On the last Wednesday of each month this winter, avid bird watchers, curious visitors and novice bird lovers are invited to join a guided bird walk at the Carolina Beach State Park. The group will explore the Snows Cut Trail near the Maria, looking for both native and migratory birds. The walk totals about two miles over two hours. This event is free to attend, just be sure to bring your own sunscreen, binoculars, insect repellent and water.
Special Olympics Polar Plunge & Run – February 19, 2022
Kure Beach hosts its annual Polar Plunge & Run to benefit the Special Olympics of New Hanover County. The race offers several options for participation including a 5K run, a one-mile fun run/walk and a polar plunge into the frigid Atlantic Ocean. Festivities will kick off at 11:00 a.m. and conclude around 3:30 p.m. Expect to enjoy live music, food trucks, local vendors, games and more. The event is free to spectators and race registration starts at $30 per person.

Cape Fear Blues Jam – March 1 – May 31, 2022
Every Tuesday this spring starting at 8:00 p.m., the Cape Fear Blues Society will host Blues Jam at The Rusty Nail in Wilmington, NC. You’re welcome to sit back, relax and just enjoy the jams, or bring your instrument and join in the musical fun. Check the Facebook events page for weekly updates.
Steve Haydu St Patrick’s Lo Tide Run – March 12, 2022
Dress in your best green shamrock-covered attire for the annual Lo Tide Run, benefiting New Hanover community residents battling cancer. The race features a 5K and 10K through the streets of Carolina Beach, beginning and ending at Lake Park. The awards ceremony and after-party will begin around 9:20 a.m. Registration is open through the day of the event, but you may also register online in advance.
Mac & Cheese Festival – March 26, 2022
Good Hops Brewing will host this year’s Mac & Cheese Festival in Carolina Beach, NC. The annual event is sponsored by The Island Men and boasts an afternoon filled with cheesy delight. Hundreds of competitors will enter their mouth-watering mac & cheese recipe hoping for a chance to win the coveted “Golden Noodle Trophy.” Attendees are invited to sample as many delectable dishes as they’d like for a $10 donation. The event is from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

75th Anniversary Celebration in Kure Beach – April 2022
Aprill will mark the 75th anniversary of the incorporation of the town of Kure Beach. In celebration of the milestone, Kure Beach is planning a month filled with special events. The culmination of these celebrations will take place the weekend of April 29th with a Big Band Bash on Friday evening, the annual Street Festival on Saturday and the return of the Boogie in the Park concert series (see below) on Sunday evening. Cape Fear Craft & Cuisine – April 2, 2022
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will host this year’s annual Cape Fear Craft & Cuisine, named “Southeast NC’s Premier Beer & Food Pairing Event.” The evening will feature beautiful pairings of local brews with chef creations for guests to nosh, sip and enjoy. Small, regional and independently-owned breweries will showcase their latest brews alongside a creative cuisine concoction, specifically designed to complement a craft brew. Brewers and chefs will be on-site to discuss their enticing pairings. This annual Fort Fisher event is from 7:00-9:00 p.m. with tickets available for purchase online.
Star Party – April 22, 2022
The Cape Fear Museum has partnered with the Cape Fear Astronomical Society and Carolina Beach State Park to host the 10th Annual Star Party. This family-friendly event is FREE to attend and will feature astronomy-themed activities, food trucks and stargazing. This year’s theme is Understanding the Universe. The Carolina Beach State Park will host the event at the Visitors Center from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Remember to bring your flashlight and bug spray!
Race for the Planet – April 24, 2022
The Annual Race for the Planet, benefiting the North Carolina Aquarium and local charities, will offer runners an in-person and a virtual race option for 2022. The in-person event will be held in Fort Fisher and will feature a 5K run and a one-mile fun run/walk. Registration for the in-person event includes admission to the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, the Party for the Planet after-party and a race t-shirt. The virtual Race for the Planet gives runners the option to run anywhere between April 24th and April 30th. Virtual races include a 5K, 10K and half marathon. Boogie in the Park Outdoor Summer Concerts – May 1 & 15, 2022
The family-friendly outdoor summer concert series – Boogie in the Park – is back for 2022. On the first and third Sunday of the month, enjoy an evening of live entertainment featuring a variety of genres including funk, rock, pop and soul. Don’t forget your lawn chair or blanket! Boogie in the Park takes place at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park & Pavilion from 5:00 -7:00 p.m.
Carolina Beach Street Arts Festival – May 7, 2022
You don’t want to miss the annual Carolina Beach Street Arts Festival, benefiting the local non-profit organization Island Arts Council. This Carolina Beach event will feature interactive art displays, cooking demonstrations, artist performances and hundreds of local vendors showcasing their handmade arts and crafts. The arts festival will take place at Carolina Beach Lake Park from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Carolina Beach Double Sprint Triathlon – May 22, 2022
The annual Carolina Beach Double Sprint Triathlon is a favorite among triathletes along the Atlantic coast. While the individual segments of the race may seem quick to the untrained eye, a double sprint is exactly what the name implies. Athletes kick off the triathlon with a 375-meter swim, immediately followed by a 1.5-mile run, a 20K bike ride, and another 1.5-mile run before finishing with a second 375-meter swim. Summer Events in Carolina Beach
Carolina Beach Farmers’ Market – May 21 – August 27, 2022
Every Saturday this summer, pick up fresh, locally sourced meats, produce, baked goods, dairy products and much more at the Carolina Beach Farmers’ Market. This weekly event is held at the Carolina Beach Lake Park on Atlanta Ave. from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each Saturday. There will also be local arts & crafts for sale plus live entertainment during each market.
Summer Movies at the Lake – May 29 – August 29, 2022
The Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation will host a FREE movie each Sunday evening at the Carolina Beach Lake Park on Lake Park Blvd. Movies begin at dusk (around 8:45 p.m.) with concessions available on-site for purchase. Turtle Talks – June 1 – August 31, 2022
This summer, join the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project for weekly Turtle Talks. You’ll learn about local sea turtle nests, their habitats, a sea turtle’s life cycle and how you can help the endangered species survive. Turtle Talks take place every Wednesday starting June 1st at the Carolina Beach State Park Visitors Center. You can also attend Turtle Talks every Monday starting June 6th at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park & Pavilion. Turtle Talks start at 7:00 p.m. and last about one hour.
Carolina Beach Music Festival – June 4, 2022
The Annual Carolina Beach Music Festival returns for its 36th year as one of the longest-running beach festivals in the US. Shaggers of all ages join for a day of dancing, fun and fellowship. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. with the first band playing at 11:00 a.m. This year’s lineup includes Band of Oz, North Tower and Jim Quick & Coastline. Tickets go on sale on April 1st for $35 each; the price increases to $40 on the day of the event.

Jolly Mon King Classic – June 8-12, 2022
The annual Jolly Mon King Classic is a family-friendly fishing tournament hosted by the Ocean Isle Fishing Center. Up to 250 teams will compete for more than $70,000 in cash and prizes during the year’s tournament. The competition begins on the 8th with Jolly Mon VIP. Junior anglers and aspiring fishing pros compete on the 9th and 10th at the Jolly Mon Rock the Dock and Jr. Jolly Mon, respectively. Spanish Mackerel Open – June 10-12, 2022
More than $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded at this year’s Spanish Mackerel Open hosted by Fisherman’s Post in Wilmington, NC. Up to 50 teams will compete in multiple categories during this 3-day tournament. Both teenagers and adults are invited to take part. Online registration is now open. All fish weighed during the tournament will be donated to First Fruit Ministries.
Kure Beach Market – June 14 – August 30, 2022
Check out the Kure Beach Market every Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You’ll find handmade goods by local artisans, locally grown produce and beautiful ocean views. The market can be found at the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park & Pavilion next to the pier.

Story Time by the Sea – June 15 – August 17, 2022
Kure Beach Ocean Front Park & Pavilion will host a weekly Story Time by the Sea for elementary-aged boys and girls. Each Wednesday during the summer, join the Princess and her fairytale friends for a fun-filled morning. Festivities will be held in the gazebo by the ocean and will include storytime, crafts and games. Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras to capture precious memories of their kids with these beloved princesses from their favorite movies. Story Time by the Sea is from 10:00 -11:30 a.m.

Patriotic Golf Cart Palooza – July 2022 Date TBD
The Patriotic Golf Cart Palooza kicks off the Fourth of July holiday weekend in Carolina Beach. The Island Men, a local group supporting and fundraising for the Pleasure Island community and local charities, hosts the annual event. In 2021, forty golf carts paraded through the streets adorned in their finest red, white and blue decorations. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. and weaves through Carolina Beach’s residential neighborhoods, starting at the Publix on St. Joseph’s St. and ending at the Boardwalk Gazebo. Independence Day Fireworks by the Sea – July 2, 2022
Join all the fun and festivities at Carolina Beach this 4th of July weekend. This event typically kicks off the summer-long celebrations that take place along the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. The Independence Day event will include food vendors, family activities, fireworks and more. Live music begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Boardwalk Gazebo, and fireworks start at 9:00 p.m.
Family Night at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk – July 5 – August 30, 2022
Tuesday nights are for families at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. Tickets for rides and games on the Boardwalk Amusement Park are $1.50 each. Boardwalk Blast in Carolina Beach – July 7 – September 29, 2022
Following the Fourth of July celebration, the summer-long Boardwalk Blast Fireworks and Music Series officially begins. Every Thursday night, join in the fun with live music and fireworks on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. Summer Lawn Concerts at Fort Fisher – July 8 – September 23, 2022
Grab the family and relax with the sounds of summer. Twice a month on Friday evenings, the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area will host a live concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your beach chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner to enjoy. Wahine Classic – 2022 Dates TBD
The 7th Annual Wahine Classic returns to the North Carolina coast in August 2022. This all-female surf competition for amateur and pro surfers has not yet announced the location of this year’s competition. Online registration typically opens in mid-June. Cape Fear Independent Film Festival – 2022 Dates TBD
Referred to as Hollywood in the South, the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival has been showcasing local, regional and international films and filmmakers for more than 20 years in Wilmington, NC. The North Carolina coast has a rich history in films, with many popular movies and TV series using Carolina Beach as their filming location. After a two-year hiatus, filmmakers and film-watchers are anxious for the return of the Wilmington event. Check the Facebook page for the latest updates on the 2022 film festival.
O’Neill/Sweetwater Pro-Am – 2022 Dates TBD
Hundreds of amateur and professional surfers flock to Carolina Beach every summer for the annual O’Neill/Sweetwater Pro-Am Surf Fest. Annual Arts & Crafts Festival – September 3, 2022
The Oak Island Art Guild hosts this year’s Annual Arts and Crafts Festival featuring more than 100 vendors selling their locally-made arts and crafts in categories including pottery, fabrics, photography, jewelry and more. The event is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a rain date set for Sept. 4th. The festival takes place at Middle Park in Oak Island, NC, approximately 50 minutes from our oceanfront hotel in Carolina Beach.
Carolina Beach Farmers’ Market – September 3 – October 1, 2022

Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta and Festival – September 16-17, 2022
The Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta returns for its 8th annual event at the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin. The fun begins on Friday night with a kick-off party and FREE outdoor concert starting at 6:00 p.m. at the SeaWitch Cafe and Tiki Bar. Races begin Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. There will be food and drink vendors on-site during the races. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. This event is FREE for spectators. Those who wish to take part may register online. This Carolina Beach event is sponsored by The Island Men and Ocean Cure.

Wilmington Boat Show – September 30 – October 2, 2022
Wilmington has joined the ranks of hosting one of the largest annual boat shows on the Atlantic coast. Stop by the Wilmington Convention Center to see live demonstrations, boat displays and informational booths. Visit the Wilson Parking Lot of the Cape Fear Community College for more boating fun plus live music, food trucks and family activities. Farewell Summer Jazz Funeral – October 7, 2022
In true NOLA fashion, Kure Beach mourns the death of summer with a jazz funeral. You’ll enjoy vendors, masks, beads and of course, live jazz music. Join the procession starting at L Avenue, and march down Atlantic Ave. to the Ocean Front Park & Pavilion. Festivities start at 7:00 p.m. Check the event page for more details.
Wilmington Riverfest – October 7-9, 2022
Voted one of the Top 7 Festivals to visit in North Carolina, the Annual Wilmington Riverfest has become a highly anticipated event since its inception in 1979. The event will include family activities, food, fireworks, live entertainment and more. This year’s event will also see the return of the crowning of Miss Riverfest. Carolina Beach Pets in the Park – October 8, 2022
Grab your four-legged friends and enjoy the 2nd Annual CB Pets in the Park. The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce hosts this event and it is $5 to attend. All well-behaved pets and their owners are welcome to join the fun on Oct. 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be a pet parade, costume contest, kid-friendly activities, rescue groups, food & drink vendors, local pet-friendly businesses and more. Pleasure Island Surf Fishing Challenge – October 14-16, 2022
Pleasure Island hosts its annual Surf Fishing Challenge this October. More than $25,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs at this year’s Carolina Beach event. Anglers may fish from any of the beaches on Pleasure Island: Fort Fisher, Kure Beach or Carolina Beach. There will be three weigh-in stations along the coast and the tournament headquarters are in the Town of Carolina Beach Public Parking Lot between Sea Witch Cafe and CB Municipal Docks (224 Canal Drive, Carolina Beach, NC). North Carolina Oyster Festival – October 15-16, 2022
Come out and join the 41st Annual NC Oyster Festival at Town Center Park in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. This year’s event features live entertainment, arts & crafts vendors, oyster shucking contests and more. Beyond oysters, your appetite will delight in sweet treats and local cuisines from food trucks and restaurants in the area. Admission is $5 for adults (cash only) and FREE for children 12 and under. Free parking and a free bus shuttle will be available both days of the event at Lowes Foods (7278 Beach Dr.) and Odell Williamson Municipal Airport (6080 Beach Dr).
Voracious & Rare Beer Festival – October 28, 2022
Fifty regional breweries come together to bring the annual Voracious & Rare Beer Festival to Wilmington, NC. Enjoy food, music, local brews and more while overlooking the Cape Fear River. This year’s event will take place at the Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Purchase your tickets online before they sell out!

Cape Fear Fair & Expo – October 28 – November 6, 2022
The Cape Fear Fair & Expo will return to the Wilmington International Airport in 2022 for its 57th annual event. Your kids will go wild over the family-friendly fair attractions and activities including educational agricultural magic shows, petting zoos, a Victorian-style circus, a comedy hypnotist and much more. Carousel Center Beer & Wine Festival – October 29, 2022
Join the 21st Annual Carousel Center Beer & Wine Festival for a cause. Enjoy local brews and delicious bites while supporting The Carousel Center, a local children’s center providing medical exams and therapy sessions to kids from Brunswick and surrounding counties. Annual Cape Fear Kite Festival – November 5-6, 2022
The sky comes to life at the 16th Annual Cape Fear Kite Festival. Giant penguins, white stallions, huge sea creatures and soaring butterflies are just a few of the larger-than-life kites you might see at the event.
